Tonight (December 21) at 8:35 PM KST, the 2024 SBS Drama Awards will be held at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The ceremony will be hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Kim Hye-yoon and Kim Ji-yeon as the three MCs.

This year, SBS has solidified its dominance in the drama category among the three major terrestrial broadcasters. Naturally, all eyes are on the recipient of the Grand Prize trophy.

The nominees for the Grand Prize include Ji Sung (Connection), Kim Nam-gil (The Fiery Priest 2), Park Shin-hye (The Judge from Hell), Ahn Bo-hyun (Flex X Cop), Jang Nara (Good Partner) and Hwang Jung-eum (The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection). Among them, Ji Sung, Jang Nara, Park Shin-hye and Kim Nam-gil are considered strong contenders for the top honor.

Jang Nara’s legal drama “Good Partner” overcame challenges such as preemptions caused by the Paris Olympics and maintained strong momentum, generating significant buzz. The drama achieved a peak viewership rating of 17.7%.

If Jang Nara wins the Grand Prize for “Good Partner”, she will make history in the entertainment industry by winning Grand Prizes in both music and acting, following her win at the 2002 Music Awards.

Taking over the baton from “Good Partner”, “The Judge from Hell” also garnered meaningful success, propelling Park Shin-hye into the race for the Grand Prize.

Known for her bright and cheerful “candy” roles, Park Shin-hye successfully transformed into the wicked yet lovable anti-hero Kang Bit-na in “The Judge from Hell”, showcasing her versatile acting skills.

Kim Nam-gil of “The Fiery Priest 2”, which returned after 5 years, is another strong contender. Notably, Kim Nam-gil won the Grand Prize at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards for the first season of “The Fiery Priest”. If he wins again for the second season, it will be a rare and remarkable feat for a seasonal drama.
